The Utah San Rafael Energy Lab (USREL), operated by the Utah Office of Energy Development, and NuCube Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to site and test a NuCube microreactor at USREL in Orangeville, Utah.
This collaboration enables the deployment and testing of NuCube’s revolutionary microreactor technology, a key step toward commercializing modular, high-temperature nuclear systems.
The reactor leverages TRISO fuel and heat‑pipe design to minimize moving parts, is safely housed in a stainless‑steel containment, and delivers ultra‑high‑temperature heat (> 1,000 °C) for combined electricity and industrial‐heat applications.
NuCube’s microreactor can both generate electricity and provide high‑temperature industrial heat, making it competitive with natural gas and suitable for off‑grid or rural installations.
The test at USREL showcases Utah’s leadership in nuclear innovation, integrating this microreactor into the state’s clean energy roadmap.
